Client: The West Coast University (WCU) Alumni Association, located in Irvine, California, is the official alumni organization of WCU, a private university with over 20,000 graduates around the world.
West Coast University is a multi-campus, Orange County-based college that typically holds large commencement ceremonies at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed WCU’s 2020 commencement festivities until September and pushed the event to an online-only format. The Alumni Association wanted to ensure the accomplished graduates—primarily working adults—would feel special on this milestone day.
WCU turned to Eagle Print Dynamic’s creative team for guidance in developing a fully customized graduation box. Each commencement kit included printed materials and branded items that their 3,000 graduating students would find impactful for the online ceremony, in their jobs, and their long-term involvement with the WCU Alumni Association.
Printed on top of the glossy, teal, pizza-style box was a diagonal banner with “2020 Virtual Commencement” overlaid above a grayscale rendering of the school’s seal. The front flap included an inspiring tagline, “Get ready to UNBOX your FUTURE” alongside the “#WCUproud” hashtag for social media links. The inside cover was emblazoned with a colorful “CONGRATS!” and a brief welcome message from the Alumni Association.
Each kit contained a treasure trove of materials and items, including:
- A letter from the WCU president printed on high quality paper
- A commencement program
- Virtual graduation details
- Congratulatory materials
- An Alumni Association brochure
- A response card to stay connected
- A WCU-branded backpack
- A WCU Alumni license plate frame
WCU took advantage of the Eagle Ordering Portal to give graduates the opportunity to easily order customized yard signs with their name and picture, so their neighbors could share in their excitement.
All under one roof, Eagle printed and assembled the boxes, printed collateral pieces, designed and produced the branded items, and shipped the completed kit directly to 3,000 WCU graduates around the United States. The Alumni Association thrilled with our creative solutions and personal service.
To top it off, in 2021 the WCU Virtual Commencement Grad Box won Gold in the 36th Annual Educational Advertising Awards. We are proud to have been a part of WCU’s celebration and success!
